Had this tucked up in the workshop over winter out of the crap weather. Now its getting a bit warmer I decided to go and drag it out and start driving it again. It turned over for 10-15 seconds then jumped into life and purred away happily. I forgot how much I love the sound of this car
I have got one problem though. The clutch pedal won't depress, at all. Its solid as a rock. I unbolted the slave cylinder from the clutch cover and its working fine, its the arm thats seized. I sprayed some penetrating oil on it and gave it a whack with a hammer but its still not budging. Bigger hammer?

Gutted because I was really looking forward to taking it for a spin

you could just take the clutch cover off and clean/regrease the clutch release lever. this can be done without taking the engine out (just supporting the clutch end with a jack)

Cheers mate. I'll try doing that

Over the last few months I have been reading the Vizard book and I think I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do.
Plans are:

Stage 1 kit (Inlet, KnN pancake filter, single box exhaust, LCB)
Modified HIF38 Carb as per Vizard book
12G295 Head (Possibly ported)
1.3:1 roller rockers (Apparently better for small bore)

I want to do all this but keep it looking bog standard, which is the reason Im sticking with the pancake filter housing. One concern I have is that modifying the carb and manifold to flow well might be a waste of time if the elbow from the filter housing to the carb restricts airflow. Any thoughts on this?
Any major flaws in my plans? Opinions/advice would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Edd

the maniflow single box system looks standard and is a very nice exhaust (gives a nice sound to) but is much to loud for public roads IMO) if I were to buy an other performance exhaust for my A-series I would buy the two box system from maniflow.

i think the roller rockers is a nice additions removes a bit of the unpleasant metallic sounds an A-series can make, but a bit expensive for what you get. besides I have had the standard cast Metro rockerarms (also 1.3:1) in my tuned A-series and they work well up past 7k rpm.

IMO the only way an aftermarked inlet over the standard cast iron inlet-dualport exhaust makes sense is if you buy something like a maniflow tubular exhaust manifold and a high performance maniflow or minispares inlet, and I think the gains HP wise will be minimal (but noise will be greater )

my first step would be fitting the maniflow two box system from the downpipe and back, fitting a MG metro airfilter box (looks pretty standard but is better than the Austin round one) and then either fitting a performance head as can be bought from minispares or porting your own.

Small update. Got the clutch issue sorted. It was the arm seized in the clutch cover. Taxed and back on the road now

Its a Mk2 Still got it, its waiting till me welding skills are better, haha. Its going to be a very long term project. I want to do it properly, and I don't have the money or the time at the moment. Its still tucked away up the workshop, and its not going anywhere in a hurry

Well, its that time of year. Starting to think about getting this back out again. I would actually like to do a few bits and pieces to the engine this year.
First drive was fookin' awesome! Love driving this beast

Starting to get this ready to use again. Completely replaced the ignition parts today. New plugs, leads, rotor arm, points and condenser. Changed the oil and filter and un-stuck the clutch.

It needs a tyre or two and a new battery but other than that I think it'll go through an MOT alright. The speedo stopped working last time I drove it. I've got a replacement and just need to fit it. I also need to adjust the ignition timing. It starts and runs fine at idle but as soon as you open the throttle it chokes itself and almost dies.

Good times. Looking forward to driving it again

Well, it sailed through the MOT today

Had a poke about while it was up on the ramp too. Spotted a couple of bits that I need to get sorted before they start getting nasty. Nothing major but a few preventative measures needed I think.

I need to sort the suspension. It's a different height on every corner! Will lower and stiffen it at the same time. I'm pretty sure it's got a mix of hydro cans on it, so I'll need to have a look through the ones I have and maybe source a decent set.

Feels great to drive it again. Love the sound the Maniflow makes

Cheers Guys.

I did a bit of tinkering this weekend. Fitted an Accuspark electronic ignition module. Runs sooo much better now. It feels pretty nippy and is great fun to drive again.

I accidentally broke one of the light bezels so I 've taken the other side out until I get a replacement. I quite like the look of the lights just hanging in the spaces.

Gave it a wash and polish for the first time in years Last week too. Only taken on my crappy brick phone, but you get the idea.

I'm getting all sorts of crazy ideas with engine mods but I'm a full-time student again now and planning on going to The States for summer, so that'll have to wait till the end of the year.
This'll do me for now
