don't hold your breath people,
but it's just possible the last of the welding could be done this week.
still got a load of things to do before its back on the road, but im in a happier place now.
thanks to those who have offered help, might just need some soon.

As Martin said, which bits were missing in the end - stuff taken off the car at the original garage?

hard to say, what or if, anything is missing.
iv got stuff packed in the car, a box on the floor by the side of it,
and a bumper leaning against a wall, all covered in layers of dust as its in a spray shop.
if this sunroof is welded up this week, the roof can be prepped and the car painted.
then I can start to put it back together and see where I am.

The phoneix may yet rise again!
Got the car back last week, movd it to a mates lockup, nearly cried my eyes out, what a mess.
on Monday I felt light setting it alight, the cars an absolute mess, iv had the piss taken out of me big time.
but after going back on Tuesday and actualy getting it started I felt a bit better.
my biggest problem is the moron who welded up my sun roof, hes left it pretty warped, doubt wether it will ever be100%
the windscreen/radio/fuel cap system/ wheel trim and other bits are missing, and there is wiring out everywhere.
I spent last week stripping the car and rubbing down the paintwork, this week were gonna try and sort the roof out.
Im aiming to paint it week after, and if I can source a new windscreen, get it back to my drive for final fitting.
no reason now why this shouldnt be back on the road by may at the latest, or tho I doubt it will look as good as it did before.
My fault for letting it get this bad, Id had enough of it all to be honest, and was a bit tired of the whole rover thing,
But now iv got the bug again.

Cheers edd
I dont think it will ever be as good as it was because of the damage, but I'll at least get it back on the road and go from there.
got a couple of snags to sort out and I must have had something on the door sill as it's pickled a bit,
So more paint and polishing then I can start the refit nex week.

Got a few things missing like the front door cards and the locking wheel nut key, but heyho the end is in sight.
gaz44(52) will be back on the road

I can't get into this car anymore, must be my age.
sitting on the drive doing nothing.
needs some one too tinker with it and that's not me anymore.
Putting it up for sale now.
Half decent offer and it's gone.
Sad days.

It must be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel with a project like this, but I really think you'd change your mind if you got behind the wheel again?

Well I've done the unthinkable, iv sold the money pit
I'm sure it's going to a good home,
met arron and he has the bug the same as I did, and he has plans to carry the car forward.
money is in the bank, and the car goes in the morning, so no going back now.

I've asked arron if he'd like to carry this thread on so hopefully,
we'll all see this car back on the road as it should be.

All the very best with it arrons442 over to you.

i will be adding to this thread for you

so there may not be much work for the next few months as i will be getting the gear ready to rebuild, the engine crane is on its way so that will be the first thing coming out for refurbishing, the colour scheme is lovely as it is but it may change due to the hard colour match.

the roof is either going to be replaced from a non sunroof shell or possibly a bmw mini panoramic sunroof. i have a brm grill which i have been looking into fitting and colour matching but thats unknown yet.
all interior parts will be staying pretty much the same for now other than the electric window kit and maybe some led's
the major part is the floor, which will either be getting new pans from a metro shell or trying to patch up the best i can, looking at making the front arches the same as the rear etc with coilovers on the front.

i have been also toying with the idea of putting the vvc engine in my 1.8 metro and putting a turbo in this.

it will all take quite a long time but eventually the car will be baack on the road and visiting the shows again. hopefully gaz44 will be happy with the plans and i will take it town once finished to show him the hard work. thanks for a great project i cant wait to get my hand dirty!

ok so ive done little bits like try to get it started which ended up with 2 flat batteries, no earth and a starter motor nearly catching fire, and try and save the shell, but it looks like it was too late, the welder wouldnt do it due to the amount of rust and holes. the underneath is completely gone and the front has almost come apart from the car its that bad so it was time to just go ahead with a reshell. i managed to find a mint metro rio with just one owner and 28,000 miles, there is no rust at all and just a dint in the boot which wont be needed. anyway, less of the long paragraph, heres some pics

and here is the new money pit, doesnt look like much but will soon be having everything from the purple car on this, not sure on the deseam yet though as i quite like the seam there, first job getting the turrets and arches welded onto the new shell
