Hi all,

Just woundering would a gearbox from a N reg mk3 R416 with 105k be worth having.

I know of a car with the 1.6 K-series removed already and the gearbox is still inplace with the shafts so an easy removal. The sellar wants 35-40 which I think is reasonable and due to the engine being removed already would make it easy a easy picking.

TIA

Debateable...if it was for free or £10-20 then i'd go for it...but at 105k its not likely to have much life left in it...R65's have a habit of just wearing out even if they aint thrapped...although it should be code'u'...

How are you!!!!!!!!!!

As you know left Syntech year before last - now with Ultra Electronics at Weymouth.
Stil miss Syntech but had family problems -- my dear mum.

Still got the Ascot but in final stages of rebuilding a black GTI.

martin, if you can get the gearbox any cheaper it could be worth it. just give the input shaft a firm tug up and down to check for play in the bearings first. could still be worth having to send off for reconditioning as a 'spare' which you could then swap over when you wanted. all depends what your longterm plans are though.

216 / 416 box will need the top selector arm cutting off and swapping for a metro one. put the 2 boxes side by side and the difference is quite obvious.

if the car the box came from was a hydraulic clutch version youll need to swap the clutch arm and remove the slave cylinder bracket from the box casing too.
