Right, just out of interest, metrocedes raised a point, that worried me, cos its exactly the kinda thing that im gonna get stuck on when doing an engine conversion...

my car is a 96 gta, presumably it has '5as' ?
so if i put a 96 1600 16valver in it, along with a 1600 16v ECU, and wanted my immobiliser and fobs to work, what is the procedure.... or do i need a 16valve loom and 5as/3as aswell???

cheers to probably.... tonyb

i dont think the flywheel matters in the case of late GTa's like the one ur getting, and like mine, as the flywheel still has 4 pickups...
see the thread in technical area, a bit furthur down called '1600 purchase list', think its confirmed in there...

You can keep your 5AS and FOBS from your 8v, you just need the ECU and 5AS to have the same code - I think remotekey.uk do this for £10 so both the ECU and 5AS code are matched. The mpi looms are the same thoroughout i've been told, but not 100% sure.

Not sure how yours has been set up Craig..
If you're using the GTi SE ECU I don't think the 5AS is connected up to the ecu

should i send them to remote key(gti ecu and my GSI 5AS) while driving the GTA then fit them to it?

No, your gti ecu and the 5AS aren't compatible with each other hence why your alarm works but immob doesnt.

so there is no way to get my immob to work unless i get a set from another rover 214 or ZR.
if thats right then i understand.

Barber, mines a 97 car with a 97 engine so i did pretty much the same thing as you're talking about.

Your original loom will be fine, as will your original fobs and alarm. What you'll have to do, like i did, is run it down to Rover when you've done the swap on the 1.4 ecu (dont use high revs too much on the 8v ecu) with the 1.6 ecu with you, then ask them to program the alarm and fobs code to the new ecu. Cost me 1/2 hour labour.
