Getting close to sorting the vvc metro you've all been a great help, my attention has turned to cooling the thing now, I'm thinking of just fitting a 10" 120watt fan of eBay with a override switch in the car just in case, would this be enuf to cool it ?

Should be plenty cool enough with that as long as the coolant system is in a1 condition. What rad are you using? I use an mgf rad and fan on a mems 3 160 with only the ecu switching the fan. In the two years the 160's been in I've only heard the fan a couple of times. 88'c stat fitted too.

A A1 condition Metro rad and fully working loom/ fan should be sufficent to keep the VVC cool. Especially an alloy core rad.

People fit overrides when their fan doesn't kick in- which indicates a loom fault. Better to fix the fault in the long run than an out of place switch on the dash that you could well forget to activate one day.

Multiple flushes using Holt's Speedflush and a new alloy rad with a 82 degree stat should see you perfectly fine.

The stat you should be able to buy from local motor factors, and check before you pay it has 82 not 88 stamped into the middle of it.

Try ebay for the rads, there's a few specialists on there. If your going to run MEMS3 and have a ZandF remap, then they can also adjust the temperature the fan activates. You could lower it a degree or 2 if you wanted.

Used but looks okay/ would need flushing;

Highly recommended is Holt's Speedflush. I ignore the instructions and run it for 2-3 days/ 100 miles and then dump out whilst running a garden hose into the rad and ALL pipes including the heater matrix until they run clear. Fill up with water and maybe run for another day just to make sure it doesn't go all rusty coloured. If not then add your OAT anti freeze and done

Well alloy is better at dispersing heat and it really depends on how rusty and how many fins your carb one is missing. It's worth fitting a new one whilst it's all apart.

You dont need to be spending £23.18 for one, if you go to Euro Car Parts and quote the Halfords part No. for the 82deg stat,
ie, Either 'HTK 605' or 'QTH 115K', they will have it listed but under a part for a KIA, part No. '209 56 001J', its also
got a jiggle-pin fitted for easier bleeding, about £7.
Fyi, the 82deg stat was originally fitted to the very early 'K' series engines with the alloy stat housing and not the later
plastic housing.

What's different about a K turbo water pump? Any pics?

Point taken regarding the cost of the rimmerbros item but the point I was trying to subtly make was that the OP was saying he was struggling to find an 82 degree stat and I very quickly found several links with a quick google.

We're all on learning curves of varying degrees at the end of the day.
