I acquired Laney's shell - 111SLi would be proud; she was heading for the scrap yard, but I convinced him with beer tokens to let me have her instead, as shes got a really solid shell, just had broken windscreen, no bonnet, knackered wings, no interior, no front subframe blah blah blah, was pretty much a bare shell. On the upside its a non-sunroof, carb model so no emission issues for me ! Heres a pic of when I collected her ** going to have to bear with me and use the links until I photobucket everything** Edited by p319 hok 15/9/2013 6:55 PM

formerly p319 hok Posts: 1965 Location: Under a car somewhere | Got a fair bit more done gentleman - been slogging my nuts off to be fair ! Ive fitted a whole new lock set thanks to AK Motorsport - all locks and filler cap just £45 !!! Ive removed the head, which was spotless, has had regualr oil changes as there were no deposits in the head and every oil way and coolant passage is really clean. Started off by opening the ports up from a lousy 35/36mm to the full 40mm capacity of the gasket Found the casting for the coolant ways around the liners to be poor Tidied these up best I could Lucky enough to have a really nice mill and tools at work, so gave it a heavy skim to try and save some compression from the thicker MLS Ive also flatted all my tappets to have a nice fresh face, ready for this badboy to bed in ( ok its only a bp270 exhaust cam, nothing exciting ) Fitted the new Landrover uprated oil ladder Dropped a sump baffle in while I was there - be rude not to ! Bought a Janspeed exhaust manifold to take advantage of its 39mm I/D primaries and let that porting work its magic

formerly p319 hok Posts: 1965 Location: Under a car somewhere | Rebuilt the head with brand new seals throughout and got it back on, just like the pro's do it - on a wheelie-good workbench Bought some brand new calipers at a bargain price, then got a deal on some brake caliper paint - so bought two colours for a subtle paint scheme... How she stands at the moment - forgot to paint the HCU, so got to take the plenum back off

I made it because it cost me nothing to do, I cant knock them out cheaper than that because our cnc lathe doesnt have bar feed (so it cant make more than one part on its own), id say thats a very good price considering what they normally charge ! I did put a 4 (8 inc) taper on, which is alot more than theirs by the look of it which should make mine much stiffer, will soon find out ! edit: to be honest id say theirs was the same and thats a great price, get it ordered ! 'Metropower's James May' Posts: 2977 Location: Southport, North West | Looks good, similar spec to mine except that I have a 285 grind on my exhaust and no LSD, however I suspect it might not be as aggressive and possibly jsut a 270. Either way, nightfire is one of the best colours on a GTi, I think quick_spider's with the comps looked spot on.

formerly p319 hok Posts: 1965 Location: Under a car somewhere | Done some more work, not many photos as ive been doing lots of wiring, fiddling and boring stuff. Been all over the shell with my magnifying glass and my top mate (funnily also called Tom) and his magic rot busting thumbs. Found two small holes in my rear outer valance panel, one at either corner, then Toms huge thumbs smashed in a nice crack in the centre of the panel where it wasnt too nice, so weve cut a big letterbox in the centre to make sure its all good metal. The inner valance panel had several little holes and scabs all over so I figured seen as were so well practiced at doing rear valance panels - well have the lot off and made a hole new inner valance panel ! As its not a business my mate almost seems determined to do everything the most dangerous way, so my car spent a day jacked up on a trailer, on fire - for most of the day ! Thanks to Martin @ Mart and Design https://www.facebook.com/MartAndDesign?fref=ts I now have some really nice VVC stickers on my door cards, also found some really swish door pulls which happen to sit lovely on the inner door skin inbetween the old door pull holes, so you can give them some real welly and not worry about them falling off ! After all of our nasty welding escapades we got to weld some really nice 3mm thick stress plates in to give the cage a really good foundation, the improvement in strength is HUGE, I ca now jack the floor underneath that plate and theres no movement at all, added these in both floor corners, the rear arch to inner rear quarter and got some going in on the b-pillar by the seat belt mount points going onto the cage aswell Old dash had two guages where i really didnt like them so that had to go quickly, when I pickled up the dash it was painted black but was all cracked and flaking as someone forgot to use plastic etch primer so after 3 hours of gentle sanding, cleaning & 3 coats of plastic primer and 5 coats of satin black gave me this
