Picked this up after I had spent quite a while looking at it on Autotrader and really wanting it, going to view it sealed it for me...

The Autotrader photos did it no justice.
[sorry for Iphone photos!]

As I picked it up.

Got it back faultlessly. Forgot how smooth a standard Metro is. Turned 53k miles on the way home.

Interior like new with original Rover mats

Needs a new Henley Blue boot lid if anyone sees one, I can transfer the spoiler and badges.

With Liam's GTa after washing it, came up nicely.

Having it's first MOT in 3 years and after standing for 2. It PASSED!

This GTi will be lightly restored including new arches and a driver's door as someone atempted to break into it at somepoint busting the lock and damaging the door, however, overall it will be staying standard and I intend to keep for a long time.

It seems to be a very interesting car, being a genuine Metro GTi carrying Henley Blue, which is unusual, as I have never seen another one... I have the original finance invoice for £9500, but no mention of any special paint jobs, but I do not have the bill of sale. Then again there is a special order MG Metro Turbo out there which after it's current owner researched was a case of someone walking into a dealer and asking for a Turbo in Henley Blue, so whether this GTi is a special order I guess so, any information would be gratefully received.

Looking at the tailgate, is that the paint flaked off? The door would if you needed to, i made a tool up to repair lock damage years back consisting of some profiled washers and a bolt. Is the paint around it damaged?

I'm not sure about the boot, although looking at the spoiler it doesnmt have a drain slot in the bottom so maybe the side pillars have previously filled with water and slowly leaked out causing rust. Around the lock there is minimal paint damage, just bent metal, photos of your tool Adrian, would be useful.

The bodywork on this car is all petty stuff, which on 1 hand is good but annoying, as for the sake of 1 spot of rust on front wing I need another one in same colour.

Good to see someone off mp bought this, one of my fave colours too. I remember the first time I saw purple based Henley gti rep, absolutely fell in love with it. Looks gorgeous bud, glad you're keeping the bodywork standard. Any plans for the engine?

Thanks for the comments. The whole car will remain standard, it's surpisingly nippy and so comfortable.
The car needs;

-New lockset.
-Driver's door repaired/ replaced.
-Bootlid repaint/ replaced.
-Bonnet vents repainted.
-New rear wheelarches.
-Bonnet support rubbers.
-Driver's headlamp.
-Minimal welding to 1 end of the passenger sill, not MOT failure though.

Plus a bloody good polish and a K&N panel filter I think.

I really would reccomend fitting whole rear quarter panels, over just the arches, it will be a lot better job and much easier to repair the inner arch (which will need doing)

I think any gti deserves that.

I would but from where I live to where the car is kept I would not be able to transport them- as they don't fit inside a metro! lol

What is the cheapest source anyway?

Dave, if those gravy lovin northerners (a.k.a Matt and Liam) managed to get the back of a metro - in the back of a metro. then im sure the quarter panel will fit.

Ak Motorsport still have some I am pretty sure, if you did want some and get really stuck I have a few.
You can always cut the top off them at the b and c pillar as you don't need the top part and they should fit in ok then.

ahh soo many choices. I'm not used to Metros that need welding! lol I'm more concerned about finding panels in the right colour tbh.

Rimmer bros has both sides at £120 per side.

My tool is basically a couple of plates that are slightly curved with a hole in. A nut and bolt through the holes and tighten it up to straighten the area around the lock. if you use a long bolt you can use it as a lever to help straighten the area.

I reckon the bootlid may have been painted, and the paint has shrunk and broken around the hard edge of the spoiler, as if the paint isnt adhered properly. Looks like the primer is grey? They would have been white from the factory with Henley blue.

Quarter panel may fit but only if you remove the front seat... you get about 6 inches worth of sill past the B post too.

Is that a 100% genuine GTi, not GTi id put onto a standard Metro or GTa? Looks brilliant in that colour

I've got a brand new genuine driver's side wing here. Bought for my GTi but someone persuaded me to sell them the GTi. I had actually bought complete rear wing repair panels from Hadrian panels who were based on the trading estate where I work before their demise. I offered up the rear section of the skirts and found the fit appalling. Took them back and bought a pair of rear wings from AK Motorsport instead. They are easier to transport if you cut off the top part that you don't actually use.

Have a hadrian arch panel to use for repairing the inner arch as well

It has all the trim, badges, ARBs, shock mounts etc... And comes up as a GTi on checks. Its had 4 owners including me I think and from the history it all seems legit.

Ill get a photo of the VIN plate, don't GTis have a certain letter combination in the main VIN to denote them?
