So I bought a gti 1.8 turbo the other day! I'm going to have a go at doing one of these build thingys! But because I'm abit rubbish on the photo side of things I will be covering my 3 metros.. one is the white gti I bought the other week.. one is my red 1.1c with tf subframe front and rear to run a mid engine set up and I've got another gti that is basically a shell. That will be my last project after the others are done.

Well first thing I did to the white gti was gut it.. engine and subframe out! All the dash out! Loom out! Then I built it up with my 143 vvc I had lying around.. I have no photos of this but the subframe Is back in and the r100 loom is fitted..

Cut the dash in half and made a "racing car radio" with a piece of carbon that I have cut off a rear wing I found in a skip.. I'll try my first photo upload now! https://imageshack.us/i/pn42OdGhj

The white gti had a sw4nky steering wheel but it was the wrong boss to fit onto an r100 column and I needed to run the r100 indicator set up so it plugged into my loom. So I used a step drill on the 100 stalk setup and made the center hole bigger to fit! I also flipped the column 180 degree to get it lower as I find it more comfortable, the steering lock dosent work anymore but I'm not worried about that! This is where I'm up to with the interior at the moment.. https://imageshack.us/i/pntk9iS5j

I think the engine I got in the white one (1.8t)will be put into the mid engined one eventually. These will be slow progress because I have alot of projects, a job, a kid and a sideline of selling vectra/signum parts in the evening

Back to the white one! The front subframe and engine is in. I have decided to use the alu subby arm to keep the engine and gear box in the intended location without using spacers! I will probably need another mount to stop the engine from rocking. https://imageshack.us/i/po9PEBUrj

I thought this may have been the white one? Hopefully you'll get it all back on the road?

The white one will be back on the road next month hopefully.. not much rust on it at all and the engine is in up and running. Just need to put it together buy some tyres and a few odd jobs! The red mid engine one will be quite alot longer! The sub frame is mounted in and the rear floor welding is nearly done.. I'm going to buy another scruffy tf for the running gear!

Not done much tonight. Only had a hour at my unit! So I cut out the cross member that the previous owner had neatly welded

I replaced it with some infinity better steel and pressed some holes in it for the radiator rubbers

Then I made some little bits and bobs.. like this passenger wingmirror blank

Made a ecu and relay thingy holder

And I made this slimline fan holder.. it's quite rough but I'm going for form over function

That's it for today but I didn't have long!

The idea at the moment is to get on the road. I want to build a gti with a factory spec one day but at the moment it will be "modified". It's very photogenic aswell haha

you can never get to many metro's
it looks good in the photos. If it is in an ok condition the price is good I think.

Looks good. I'll see when I get there.. I can use bits if it's a dog so I'm not too bothered if it's a mess at that price

Didn't get much done today because I had to go pick a car up to do a job on it. Got one of the 3 patches of welding done.

Not the neatest job in the world but it will be strong enough...

I've done the drivers side corner on all the metros I have had.. it's not as flat as it looks either lol.. has kinks, twists and bends in it but looks like you can do it with a couple flat bits.. it's about time some one started mass production of parts for them and getting them on ebay hah

you are very right about that, although the numbers will be quite small I suspect. But if there is to be metros in great numbers in 15 years someone need to fabricate metal parts again because right now no one makes anything, every part you buy seems to be old stock. like the a-series headlamp panels, they rust and I am currently looking for some, but they are nowhere to be found.
