I mean excluding the mg , did the std 998 and 1300's use exactly the same exhaust/inlet manifold set up (ie same bore size etc).

The high compression 998 shared the same combined inlet/exhaust manifold as the standard 1275.

in essense , I can get hold of a 1300 inlet/exhaust manifold in pretty god condition. The only thing needed to fit would be to grind off the inlet. I take it the 1300 and the mg metro exhaust manifold are identical also apart from the fact one has a separate water heated inlet.

Pretty much all Metro's used the same manifold, the early 1.0 engine that was not high compression used a differnt one much more like the Mini's but I have never seen one of these outside the haynes manual.

The MG Metro manifold is identicle too as far as fitting to the head and downpipes its just got a seperate inlet and exhause so the inlet can be Alloy and heated/cooled.

Dont try to cut the inlet and exhaust apart its not possible, you need 2 manifolds and cut the inlet off one and the exhaust off the other to gain pretty much nothing on a road car, an LCB is only £30 new and you can get a better alloy inlet off ebay for next to nothing, the standard MG inlet is rubbish compared to an aftermarket one but then you need a K&N too as the airbox wont fit.
