The head gasget on my 1.1 Spi has just blown and I have purchased a 1.4 Mpi unit. Do I need the ECU from the 1.4 donor car and what mods, if any, do i need to make to the harness?

Forgot to mention it's an 8v 1.4 Mpi. Thanks.

i think its just a striaght swap but the inlet manifold will be different but i think the exhaust manifold is the same on all 8v engines if im wrong (which i hope im not) some one will corret me

EDIT: i think you might need an mpi ecu and loom from the same model of tro but im not sure if its a striaght plug in or not

So I don't have to change the fuel pump or ECU? That would be great. The Scrappy chopped the wiring harness to remove the engine so that would be a pain. I could always fit the SPi off my old engine if I run into probs I guess

i think you only need an mpi fuel pump if your gonna run more than an 8v engine

Ahh just saw your EDIT. Is there much advantage of MPi over SPi on an 8v anyway?

Hi...Its quite a big job to be honest with you...you will need to change the flywheel and need the Engine loom and convert to 5AS alarm if it is a metro? Technically you should use an MPi fuel pump as the MPi system runs at a higher fuel pressure...however it has been done with 16v conv's many times in the past still using the SPi Pump.

I did the conversion on my Si and i think it was worth while. If you are interested the Engine, Gearbox (Code U 'uprated') engine loom, ecu and 5AS will be up for grabs within the next month or so. PM me for more details as i really want to sell this engine rather than scrap it. Its the engine youe see to the Left in my Advart

Think i'm going to stick with SPi for now. It's an R100 so it probably already has the 5AS alarm (I'm guessing). But the harness on the donor car got hacked when they took out the engine, so that's something I don't want to get into as I use the car daily for work. In other words, it has to be a quick 1 day conversion while i'm off work, no hassle. I picked up a bargain too, a complete Si interior from a '94 car in mint condition for £50 . As I said in a previous post, I will put some pictures of before and after so you guys can see what you think. Thanks as always for the advice. Not sure if the Si has a revcounter?, would be a nice touch to finish things off inside. If not I can always pick up some Gti clocks another time.
