found this on ebay:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-Ultralight-Aluminium-Verto-Flywheel-only-2-8kgs-/140593562048

what would you think of spinning it to 8000rpm when its cast alu?

its considerably lighter than the MED light verto flywheel which weights 3.4kg but the MED one looks much nicer:

I wouldnt save a few quid going for the cast one, cast is fine if done properly, but theres always a chance of a defect getting through and you could end up with a crack or it failing

The chances are very low - but if it happens it will put your engine out of balance and theres a good chance of your engine exploding (especially seeing as when it goes youll likely be in a race w.o.t)

So id straight away go for the MED

The other thing id say - although the MED is heavier - the outside has huge slots. When it comes to inertia (how hard it is to get an item to spin) it makes a big difference where the weight is (because of the moment / leverage - the further the weight is from the centre, the larger the force required needs to be to get it moving)

So the MED will infact act like a lighter flywheel because more of its weighy is in the centre

Id say the MED was a far better buy.

Med is expensive, place doing ultralight flywheels on ebay it's English made parts they are cheap and good.

Also revving to 8k isn't that heigh for a - series just make sure the bottom end is balanced well with a centre mail strap.

Quite a few with k-series bmw heads revving over 8, and some over 9k.
