Extreme Veteran Posts: 564 Location: Halesowen | I've had this car a few months now, some of you may have seen it at POL. It's completely stock with just over 60k on it. Lots of plans for it over the winter months so I'll try and keep this updated. I had a GTa VVC a few years back which some of you may recognise, since then I've had a 172 Cup and an Integra DC5 but due to buying a house I'm back for some cheap(ish) fun! Unfortunately my GTa is no exception to the common rust issues these cars suffer with as I soon found out after removing the carpets. Bearing in mind I purchased this car with 12 months MOT in Feb 14... So instead of spending money on nice parts for it, it looks like I'll have to make it road worthy first! It's unbelievable that it still holds a current MOT. I already have a few bits and a 57k 160 VVC for it so after the repairs are done progress should be steady, hoping to have it up and running for the start 2015's drag racing season.

Veteran Posts: 335 Location: York, tis Cold Up North! | Nice looking GTa indeed. That's almost the same rot as I have in a 1989 Mk11 Clubman - my rust looks like it's identical twin brother almost. I am unsure of how to repair that chassis floor piece etc so any clues welcome. I am no welder so will have to search one out who can do it well. Do you cut the box sections out and rebuild with new sections as well as plate all floor? Keep us posted will you as I may try to learn from your work? Thanks MetroGaz

Extreme Veteran Posts: 564 Location: Halesowen | That's a very neat job you've done there mate compared to some I've seen. The difficult part for me is going to be trying to re-fabricate the jacking point as it's completely shot.

Then by going off the drivers side, try to replicate the jacking point possibly with some box section, easier said than done.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 564 Location: Halesowen | Quick update... The floors are all welded up now and back to their former glory! After some advice on here I went to Rimmer Bro's and ordered myself a new jacking point Untitled by Wayne J Keggans, on Flickr GTa Restoration by Wayne J Keggans, on Flickr And the inside... GTa Restoration by Wayne J Keggans, on Flickr GTa Restoration by Wayne J Keggans, on Flickr I bought a set of GTi lightening seats, door cards and black carpets a few weeks back from Greg Conboy and after a good clean it was time to crack on with fitting them. I've seen loads of seat combinations in Metro's/100's over the years and IMO, OEM GTi seats just look perfect. GTa Restoration by Wayne J Keggans, on Flickr Next up...OMP Corsica suede steering wheel GTa Restoration by Wayne J Keggans, on Flickr I then decided to get some decent rubber on the MPI alloys, the idea is to get it all set up handling wise before the 160 gets dropped in next year. So the postman arrived with these yesterday from JCC Race and Rally. Untitled by Wayne J Keggans, on Flickr Fitted earlier today, they've give the car that 'track look'...I'm yet to push the car hard but I'm sure they're more than up to the job. Untitled by Wayne J Keggans, on Flickr Untitled by Wayne J Keggans, on Flickr Now I've got the tyres on we're gonna crack on with individualising the suspension this weekend to get it sitting just right over the R888's. Dave20VTro will be having my 160 next for a rebuild at which time I'll also drop in a Piper exhaust cam. After that It'll be hopefully be going into the body shop over Christmas to have the arches replaced and whatever else I decide needs paint. That's it for now chaps, hope you like the build so far.
