Hi people ive heard that the oldr 1.4 mpi engines which I have can take a turbo. Ive also heard of using the kv6 pistons. What else would need to be done? Ie fueling wise And what sort of boost would be safe with said engine and pistons?

honda d16 low compression forged pistons are cheap as hell and are 75mm, pocket the liners fit a vvc head and turbo jobs done good for 200bhp

And pocket means cut outs.

Is the wrist pin not 18mm on the Honda d16 and 19mm on the Rover?

Is there someone in this forum, that used Honda low compression 75mm pistons in a K series engine?
Piston wise this sounds like a rather cheap alternative to Omegas but only as long, as standard rods can be used...

Read up, but I'm sure it's the Spi not Mpi engine you want?

"Is the wrist pin not 18mm on the Honda d16 and 19mm on the Rover?"

Am I too naive or could this be adapted with a bronze bush or similar?

I have an early 1.4L 8V engine with 8V pistons (only two cutouts) and old style liners that might be better suited to be turbod,
but with a price for 75mm K-series Turbo pistons, that is already ways higher than a used 1.8t engine, it doesn' t really make sense...

Both the 2.0 and 2.5 litre kv6 pistons are 80mm diameter, so aren't suitable for the original 75mm bore size of the 1.4 k series.

Both the 1.6 and 1.8 k series engines have the 80mm bore size.

The idea is, to build a 1.4 L turbo K-series engine with wet liners, that are less prone to hgf and might cope with higher boost.
One of the main sticking points is the pistons to reduce cr. It is for sure possible to use Omegas or Wössner or Mahle but these are pricey.
A way of solving this might be Honds turbo pistons which are ways cheaper and also 75mm diameter.
Didn't look at compression hight etc. , but the pin diameter is one ther thing to think about.
Looks like 18mm on the pistons and 19mm on the rods...

In the factory 1.8t K series engine the shorter Mexico rods reduce the cr, not the pistons.

AFAIK...

The Mexican k series was the normally aspirated version. They used the same length rods as in the UK 1.8 turbo version because Mexico have poor quality fuel. (These rods give a 2mm reduction to their length because the small end is moved down the rod. The small end is still the same size.)

The early 'wet liner 1400 is supposed to be the best to turbo. (Pre '94 ish) These had shorter rods than later 1.4s as well as stronger pistons.

The D16/ Vitara pistons compression height is around 1.5mm larger on an oem vitara piston than the 1.4 k. Aftermarket piston heights can vary between manufacturers.

The confusion over the use of KV6 pistons is that these could potentially be used to build a 1.6 with the same design of piston as used in the early 1.4 and to be able to use a vvc head without any machine work.

I've been looking at the last option for a while but I expect DAVE20VTRO will get there before me. :D

The cheapest option for fuelling would be to use a diy EFI like megasquirt or a piggyback ecu. (Google "Evolotion" on the k series mini forum for his turbo thread")

:)
