i havnt done it myself but a mate has and theres a hell of alot to cut off the mgf frame compared to the metro would help if you had metro frame out first then you could alter to suit

Here are 3 images showing the difference, the bits you need to cut are highlighted in red.

You also need to grind off the little spacer thats in each 'hole' where the lower arm bush sits.

Am doing this mod at the minute - for my own curiosity, where the plate hole has to be re-cut to allow the steering arm to go, what was this flared section originally added to the F frame for?

Left it too late to edit my last post...

For clarity -

I just want to be sure that cutting the slot out and using the steering arms isn't going to foul anything?

Yeah, remove that plate so the steering rack sits in properly. Mgf steering arms are fine. Remember to use mgf tre's and bottom ball joints too.

Why fit an MGF frame for the sake of welding in a gearbox mount to the standard metty frame?

Thought it'd be a better plan to just go TF for the bonus of no hydrogas up-front?

Or have I missed some advantage to having an MGF frame?

There isnt really an advantage to the mgf frame other than the fact its easier for most users to cut the bits off they dont need rather than try and cut out the bit they do need they weld it onto the metro frame.

Using an mgf frame means you dont need access to a welder, just a angle grinder and a tin of hammerite, also the gearbox mount on the mgf frame is right in the corner, i imagine quite tricky to cut out with a 4.5" grinder without damaging it.

Also my metro frame was quite rust and the wishbone captive nuts split off meaning i would have had to cut it open and weld patches over it, whereas my mgf frame was rust free, done 40k miles and came to bits easily. Also only cost me £35 on ebay complete with arb, hydro cans and hubs!

Because if you haven't got a welder, then its easy to cut off the bits you dont need
with a £20 angle grinder, If you do have a welder, you still need the rear frame to
cut off the tie bar bracket (with your angle grinder!) to weld on.

I agree with going the TF frame route, but the same still applies, its easier to cut
off the bits you dont need, than to weld on stuff you do.

To answer my own question...the flare is there on the Metro sub, I was given a bit of bum information by someone who said it was flat. Problem solved and hole opened.
