It may have had a 5 speed box fitted as a replacement under warrantee (cant spell!!)
if the crownwheel spun on the old 4 speed box, if those arches are original it shows
that the early 'H' and 'J' plate metro's seem fair better with rust.

The arches look a lot like 50% non-genuine replacement panels and 50% filler to me

Welcome!
Looks a very tidy car with bright paint work.

5 speed box was an optional extra for all models.

100% factory 5 speed as the VIN code on the paperwork has the 9th letter as a 'D' which is a 5 speed (Non GT) gearbox.
I notice the engine bay back has the rear black sound insulation that 5 speed Metro's have to, they wouldn't have fitted unless factory.
check this link to see how to read a Metro VIN code http://www.metroownersclub.org/index.php/2012-08-16-10-43-17/vin-plates-explained

I can see its got a brand new bright gold clutch cable!

It should have radio wires behing the dash as I think all models get the radio wires.

Theres new metro petrol tank's on ebay for around £50, or get one from a scrapyard or forum member.

Very nice

I'm breaking a red gti with 143 vvc in in up near Edinburgh if you fancy a few bits? All going cheap

Your car would have been ideal for me to swap the gti body parts on for a gti replica
