Hi all, so I recently had my last car written off, and this popped up, little 1997 1.4 GSi. 64,300 miles, good condition, just two rust patches on the rear arches, and could probably do with a fabric clean inside. Other than that it has a new exhaust, recently undersealed, taxed & tested, five new tyres, head skimmed less than two years ago etc, so well maintained as well! I plan on making it into a proper boys' toy, however all I've done so far is add a sticker to the back window... Hopefully tomorrow my Vibe Slick 5's will be making an appearance in the doors as the standard ones are godawful!
Also, a quick question - what is the best thing to fill the hole in the boot with if I were to de-wiper it to smooth it out? I know with the Peugeot 106's there's a rubber bung in the boot that fills the hole nicely, and Peugeot used to make fit-for-purpose screw in plastic bungs for security...

Anyway, here's a few photos as it stands.

Looking at getting a full exhaust system from Longlife Exhausts, sort the lows out, tinted rears, bit of bumper smoothing, obviously sort that rust out, tidy up the interior (maybe get it retrimmed, courtesy of my Grandmother ), Citroen AX gear surround to replace the tape holder, GTI clocks perhaps, and I'm sure some other stuff will crop up!

Cheers for the responses guys! Location updated - I'm in Swindon, Wiltshire. And yeah, it's very clean! Needs a bit of a freshen up inside mind... Can't believe the power the 1.4GSi kicks out though, although I suppose it's the same size and weight as a shoe...

Ahh mate, there's something I love about big lairy rear-window stickers! Always the first thing I do to a car when I sign the V5 and hand the money over!
Cheers though people, I'm looking forward to getting the project really under way (i.e. when I have some spare cash)...
However I do plan to fit my speakers today, as I got carried away setting up our new fish tank last night and then couldn't be bothered to go back outside...

So I got my new speakers in, however there will be a few changes to them as the plastic surrounding the screws (on the driver's side pod mainly) have disintegrated over time, so that'll need to be fixed.
On top of that, the Vibe Slicks fit fine in the back, but are VERY close to the door bin grill, so much so that when the music is up or a particularly bassy song is on the cone manages to touch it. For that reason, the door bins will be modified to have no grill, and I'm thinking about lining them with some mental fabric, like I'm going to do with the roof.
Also, I definitely need to get some new rear speakers as the quality is dreadful. Has anyone strengthened the housings for the rear speakers, and if so, what did you do? It's just such thin plastic...

So here's some photos of my beauties.

More-door is the way forward! I've not had a five door car since my 2005 Focus which sadly went to the scrapyard in the sky last April, and I've had a shedload of, uh, sheds in that time that have all been three door! It took me a few days to adjust to not folding the front seats down to get in the back...

Anyway, (bad) news today. There I was, just left the flat to take Katie's friend to the airport, sitting in some traffic about three miles down the road from where we started off and some bloke came and knocked on my window. Apparently my brake lights weren't working at all. So I got up on the verge, and my first check was obviously the bulbs. Absolutely fine, and I didn't believe they'd both blown at the same time. Then I thought maybe for some mad reason my Vibe speakers had shorted them out, so I took the door bins off at the side of the road and disconnected them. Still no luck. So I turned my attention to the fusebox, and checked all the fuses that could possibly be linked to the brake lights, and swapped them all over with the spare. Guess what? Nuffin'. So I had to call the AA out and Katie's friend had to get a taxi from Swindon to Bristol Airport (about 45 miles), poor girl.

Anyway, the AA turned up in pretty good time (40 minutes), which wasn't bad considering I'd requested an AA van and not a contracted, more local van. We drove to a nearby car park rather than messing about on the verge of a busy road, he had a nosey around testing the rear lights with his voltmeter, and then turned his attention to the driver footwell. He disconnected the cables from the brake pedal switch and touched the cables together. Lo and behold, the brake lights flashed on! So now I'm off to Camberley Auto Factors in the morning for a new brake pedal switch and I'll be popping that in as soon as possible.
As far as I can gather from the tinterweb though, it's not expensive, only about a fiver for the part, and it's literally a case of fixing the switch in place and putting the cables on it. Makes a change, considering when cars go wrong for me, it's usually an epic problem that's either a nightmare to fix, expensive, or both! The AA guy was like, 'not bad little cars, but let the air out of the suspension and you're winning!'. At least someone has their head screwed on straight...
Either way, I took a couple of photos whilst on the verge as the weather was nice.

So I put my new brake light switch in today, and voila, we have brake lights! Thank god for that...

The new one:

It's sat behind the steering column. Awkward as fook, and my knees don't cope well kneeling on the pavement!

The offending switch:

Just ordered myself some Vibe Slick 4's to replace the shite speakers in the back of the 'Tro, can't wait to have decent audio again! Definitely need to cut the grills out of the door bins though to make enough room for the Slick 5's!

So I've just ordered some of this:

http://www.flyeyeskit.co.uk/index.php

Ordered the 'black 1' variant. Looks to me like good stuff! Ordered a big roll too so I can f*ck it up as much as I want. Not sure whether to do headlights as well as back lights & rear fogs though...
Oh, and just paid for my fourth alloy wheel centrecap on eBay as well... Only having three was doing my fruit in!

New AX centre console, new door bins (to cut the grills out of) and new speaker pods (with all screw holes intact) picked up from Twigworth scrappy in Cheltenham today. Happy.

So I fitted my AX console today, however I didn't realise the console I have didn't have the black raised lip that goes around the square hole surrounding the gearstick, so I really should've left my gear gaiter in one piece - it now just flaps about. No pictures as I finished when it got dark, but I will put some up!
In other news, I cut the grilles out of the door bins I picked up yesterday and they're looking good Will put the Vibe Slick 5's in the new speaker pods (they have all the screw holes intact) and swap the doorcards over tomorrow. May well dewiper it at the same time.

So I fitted my door bins and replacement speaker pods today, and for an hour of cutting the grilles out and shaving down the rough edges with a Stanley knife I don't think they look too bad! I'll either spray them or trim them with some mad fabric at some point so they're not quite so drab. Here's some photos:

Also, here's a couple of pics of my AX gear surround fitted:

Oh, and my Vibe Slick 4's in the back as well

Got a few goodies on their way to me in the post as well, FlyEyesKit tinting film roll for the lights and a new gearknob & gaiter from glyn-ellis on here as my centre console doesn't have the black lip around the gear surround bit that the gaiter is usually stretched over, so I'm not gonna cut this new one and tuck it all in nicely, then probably bolt it down. We'll see how it goes anyway!

Alex.

**EDIT**
I forgot to mention, I also got new front wiper blades yesterday, they didn't squeak before, they feckin' screamed... Now they're deadly silent, thank god! Rear wiper is definitely overdue removal though, and the wiper blade is useless/f*cked anyway...
