If only the twin-cam 16v head would fit the E-series!
1500 or 1750cc with that same level of tuning...
that would be putting converted K-series cars to shame!?!

the e-series engine looks very interesting as its very compatible looking and OHC. I wonder how different the gearbox actually is to an a-series box?

just look around, maybe some 16V head from some other manufacturer will fit.
the BMW bike head isn't a direct fit to the A, so there can be a "close enough" fitting head for the E. comparing the bore diameter and bore spacing may bring up something. some gasket makers publish this data
