So last week I picked up the shell for the rebuild. Most of you will know it as Sean's (R100_vvc) old shell. It's been well looked after and I plan to continue that.

Once my old shell had gone I got a chance to go over the new one. Found two spots of rust on the inner arches that are pretty straight forward to do. The plan is to start on the front and work my way back as space is restricted a bit. Looking at about a month to have this all running and used as a daily car
A few photos of progress so far

Cleaned the engine bay

I'm going to be using the refurbed subframe I have

Engine is nearly ready to be bolted up just the steering rack and front mounts to go on

Recaros and 150 clocks are now fitted

Also gave the carpet a good clean and dyed it black came up pretty good

So that's the work this weekend hoping the weather holds off so I can get the engine in and front end put back together by the end of the week

Rear suspension is now done gti cans, shortened rods and drop stop spacers all in, Sean did give me a subframe on 18,000 miles but decided to keep that as a spare so went for my other one of 50,000 with had near new shoes and handbrake anyway

More progress this week

Inner wing welded
All the engine bay is finally done
Exhaust has been welded into one piece and on
Rear bench has been dyed

Suspension has been pumped up but needs new rear cans so will be going down to R100_vvc once it's road worthy
Looking at next weekend now as long as it all goes to plan

And the old girl how she sits at the moment

Brakes are all bleed, engines running after a few wiring issues.had to change the engine loom as my fuel pump wouldn't prime and it was not sending enough power to start, there was also a drain from somewhere.
Not sure why but changed the loom and it's all good
Only big jobs left are rear arches and to finish off the rear floor pan so the rest of the interior can go in.
Cars defiantly taking shape but my biggest stuggle will be getting the wide arches looking right but hopefully it goes smoothly and I can get the outcome I want

Have you thought about mini sportpack arches or similar. just I think the radius of the arch might be similar to metros

I did mate, Bisset had some at POL one year and line them up. The look like they will fit okay but I've now got the fibreglass to make the adjustments. I am going to be taking about 1 inch out the arch the fibreglass the lip back in
If I take my time it should come out okay

Cheers rovertaken

Log book sent off and now the car is now on the road. Everything is well other than the fuel pump and suspension which hopefully will be sorted tomorrow ??
Did make up a exhaust but it was slightly out to the tunnel and the flexi had a bit of a blow so decided to redo it and has come out spot on and fits perfect
Also managed to fit rear spats with the wide arches and done a little rust repair whilst I was at it

Here's some pics of the progress

Ah ok how come you didn't roll them like last time, was it 2 much messing about? I need to do mine as I have some silly offset wheels and they stick out about an inch on the front. Don't know wether to roll em or stick some arches on, any thoughts?

Rolling thens fine but I just got fed up with trying to keep a perfect arch and get the width needed, I always wanted to try wide arches aswell so thought why not
The fronts are really easy to do but the rears are a bit of messing. I've cut the arch away and then just joined the inner and outer arch together further up. It gives me more clearance for running wide wheels.

Trying rollin/flaring them first and if your not happy with the look the you can always go for bolt on arches. Mine only cost £65 off eBay

Thanks 4 that fella I will try rolling first, and I suppose you won't have to worry about your rear arches really then.

Nope just have to keep them clean only thing to bare in mind is the inner arch covers will need to sorted after.
I wouldn't suggest taking them out either as I have and lots of grit gets in the door hinges and up the inner wings

Not much more has really happened since it came on the road other than a half cage going in and wheels got sprayed White. It got reversed into on the passenger rear quarter and haven't been driving it to much recently
