i found this car in october last year after once again finding out metros do not like to be faced with the side of a mountain.. (Im sure il learn one day )
Its lived in nottingham all its life, had 2 owners from new and only had 21k on the clocks.
When i went to see it i fell in love instantly, could not believe my luck, same colour, year and model as my last one.. Best colour too imo. it was owned by an old lady who didnt look after it. It had moss growing on it and looked like it hadnt been cleaned in while although the arches are original and 100% filler free

ive already had the carpets up, sound deadning stripped and welded and hamerited the floor pans above the front jacking points and given it a clean.

brakes:
mintex discs and pads on gti callipers and carriers

suspension:
front and rear polybushed arbs
mgf rear individualised hydracans up front
gti rear individualised hydracans
7mm droop stop spacers on new stops

interior:
half leather silverstone recaro front seats
silverstone gta rear bench
full black plastics and carpets
red belts
mgf rear view mirror
ax center console

more to follow, some nice pics from pol to come. Enjoy!

thanks guys. Im proud of the paintwork, goes to show how fara little claybarring, polishing and waxing goes. Im the process of sorting my pics from pol so will upload them soon.
Only thing that lets it down atm is the 1.1 powerplant.. its getting an engine it deserves next monday handling wise its spot on, could do with a quicker rack but thats all in the pipelines as are tf tre's, steering arms and bottom ball joints.

managed to sucessfully upload a few pics from pol, will add other pol pics to the gallery when i upload them, great day, good weather, awesome convoy!, lots of beautiful cars and good munch after.

that little dip where im parked demonstrates nicely how the front to rear link of the hydrags units work, so took a trip down to leister to see redgaves metro (i want a tf frame) and get it individualised. This is how it sits now with mgf rear cans up front on uncut cones pumped up to 400psi and gti rear cans pumped up to 450 on uncut rods. Thanks bud.

engine goes in on monday, using a vvc manifold and have portmatched the head to suit, may not be of any benefeit atm but i reckon with a set of 135cams or vvc exhaust cams it will give decent improvement.

Having worked on this car i can say that its a very good example, adam has done a very good job with the mods... just how it should be,
Handleing first, power second.

Top man, keep us posted on the engine conversion

doesnt it!, notice how i kept that nissan juke almost out of the picture

got a few more pics to add of whats gone on over the last few weeks.

I wanted to put my vvc inlet manifold on but people say it will loose power compared to the plastic one so i decided to portmatch the inlets to suit the manifold.

need to get it on a rolling road to see if its giving anymore power. Last time i had it in it had a 48mm tb, enclosed carbon induction and plastic manifold, made 109.5bhp at the fly them. Wonder if it will improve with 52mm tb, head portmatched to vvc inlet and ZR160 airbox.

Engine ready to go in

engine on its way in

this time it didnt start first turn of the key had a few issues with it.
Changed coil, cps and leads and she started, then had clutch issues so a new clutch later and it was running!

Still had idle / breather issues but theyre sorted now... Well, as good as they'l get with the cam cover im using. Idles at around 1100rpm cold and 850rpm hot

managed to damage my bonnet refitting it, it broke my heart as the car is soo clean, anyone know how i can get it put right??

heres how michelle looks now

and finally, managed to get hold of some td motorsport center caps, didnt quite fit so had to sand the edges down a few mm, im happy enough. Havnt seen this style on a metty before. looking to get some new rubber for my 14's now i have the right engine for them, any suggestions?

as a rule of thumb if your heads in view of the rear window youve got it about right

edit: with the weight of the engine in the front its the best position. Lol

How come you took the the bonnet off anyhow? Being as the paint is broken, you'll just have to straighten it out, fill it carefully if required and then locally blend the new paint into the old. Should get away with it quite easily. Halfords Tahiti blue is pretty good.

took the bonnet off as thought it would be easier for the conversion. Wont be doing it again though. Its the blending of the paint im going to find hardest. Im okay with spraying skirts ect but im no panel beater / bodyman. The wings have also seen better days so would preferably want bonnet and wings off another tahiti 100... I WISH!

The bus is one of our indigo branded volvo B7R's, with leather seats and aircon good until they go wrong. They have euro 5 engines so absolutely everything is governed by ecu's and electrics. Give me an eu4 scania anyday!

Will do, im up your way this weekend as a matter of fact. Got a rally in wigan on saturday. Scoobies been remapped with the smaller turbo (damn regulations) so we'l see how i do. Pop along if you want.
where did you go at pol anyway?? You were around 1 second and gone the next. Didnt even get chance to show you my nice new 160 mani and downpipe i picked up

haha, the other bus is my mothers. Lol its a 1959 23 window samba so pretty much creme de la creme of the campers. Fully rebuilt from ground up. Selfish bitch even told me she used mine and my brothers uni funds to buy it.. Lucky we both got apprenticships tbh didnt realise you could see that one in the pic.. Or the volvo.

Well, juat took it to work to track it up. It goes well and pulls like a train. Revs to 7000 rpm so Im happy on that aspect. First gear could do with being a little shorter. Or a lighter flywheel would do the trick.

Dont know whats going on with the suspension. Its bouncy as hell and theres no damping whatsoever. Ive got r6 cans in now instead of mgf rears. Theyve definitely got air air them but i didnt think it would be that bad. They dont feel anywhere near as nice as mgf cans. Maybe they need additional dampers?

Before i got it tracked up it was throwing me all over the road. I know the diff has alot to do with that. Its gonna take a bit if getting used to. Tracked it up to 30' towing out. Dont know what others use but it feels alot nicer than before.

Only other issue i have with it now is its starting to hunt on idle between nearly cutting out and 1000 rpm.
Havnt reset the stepper motor yet, dont know if that'l make a difference.

Hopefully il get it sorted before pol.
