Hi all,

Just bought this car, it was on ebay originally. Gearbox/clutch is a bit noisy, and it smokes a wee bit on hard acceleration but it certainly goes. Specs are 1.6 tomcat conversion, 4 into 2 into 1 manifold with long primary branches, avo shocks, 14" compomotives, k+n with (crappy) cold air feed, unknown exhaust system, delocked and debadged, smoothed tailgate, clifford cat 1 alarm, and probably more stuff i aint seen yet.

Anyone recognise this car? Any history?

Cheers

Dean

£600

Ive just gone through torque metro's forums and found it...According to the previous owner the engine and box is sh@gged so im a bit peed off atm. I have my old gti for spares anyway which has a 214 box in , is that the r65u box by the way? I'm hoping the head is causing the smoking problems and not bottom end (or both gulp) i could put my spare cars head on the 1600 bottom end but i know its a low-port head having converted from spi to mpi a few years back

Not bad, fairly torquey, top end sounds strained though, and gearbox is a mess. I expected it to be quicker than my old gti but it aint really. Soon sort that out though, especially if i can salvage the 1600 engine in it and put all the best bits of my old car into this new one. Wheels are nice, bodywork aint too bad either. Shame about the "mods" the last chap carried out, aparently he was gonna rally it then decided his mind, then didn't wanna sell it, then he did...
