I've been reading up on what people use for oil in the Rover 100 loads of people advise Semi Synthetic 10w40 but would like to know what brands are preferred.

Many Thanks

Depends on mileage and if you have any oil leaks.. And how often you want to change the oil?

If you change it often use some of that carlube stuff you can get from sparesworld and motor factors for about 15 quid, or home bargains and bnm's sell 10/40 semi for 9.99. Know people that use that with no problems but change it every 3 months or so.

30-40 quid oil in a metro's engine is pointless imo.

I'm a tight poor welshie so I use carlube 10/40 in mine because I get it for a tenner

Thanks for replying

The car's just turned 50k but I've only done 2k so far and seemed to have an oil change before I bought but thinking I would like to change just to be on the safe side. Thankfully it's not leaking any oil been sitting for a stub axle and not a drop on the ground. I really didnt want to pay big money for oil unless its proven. I normally do quite alot of miles and bought a few OEM oil filters and OEM air filters as I was thinking of doing a mini service every 3 months as it's my daily.

Not cheap dude, Just cost effective

Buy the best oil you can afford but Carlube and brands like that are more than adequate. It's more important to use a decent oil filter rather than some Chinese knock off stuff
