Member Posts: 69 Location: Cirencester | So I've decided to do a build thread for my 2014 race car. This will be a class C car (top class) 1400 K series. I've taken the decision to race K series next year due to the costly up keep of A series. This will be a relatively quick build as I've got a tight time schedule so should be regular updates. I'm using a low millage R100 that I got from itsonlyme and I also have a GTi that will be used for parts and engine. I'll be changing the front for a Metro GTi type. Wont be needing any of this. Lots of new parts All sound deadening removed, this is the cleanest metro shell i've ever had. Lots more to follow.

Elite Veteran Posts: 664 Location: Herts | Are you allowed to use the 100 front end? Thought this would be better for aero?

Member Posts: 69 Location: Cirencester | Yes you can use the 100 front, they're have been many discussions about aero but to honest the differences are negligible. The GTi front is a lot lower to the ground which could help reduce lift at high speed and the 100 looks to be a smoother more streamlined shape. It's a good one to debate in the paddock but for a group of metros racing round a track I don't think it matters.

Member Posts: 69 Location: Cirencester | Small update before some bigger ones. The shell is now fully stripped with all sound deadening fully cleaned off and also internal seam sealer removed. Some unwanted metal removed. And a bit of wall art! It'll be a little lower than this in race trim Very clean Currently waiting for about 25 meters of seamless tube to turn up then the real fun begins.

They are a bit over kill yes but my las car was well under the weight limit without ballast and this car will be similar so I'll be building a lot more strength into parts like the turrets and roll cage without the penalty of being to heavy.

Elite Veteran Posts: 883 Location: birmingham | Good looking turrets but carnt see the point doing them that thick as there only going to be as strong as the panel your welding them too and over time they might start to stress crack around the welds

Expert Posts: 1228 | That looks like a hellish tidy shell. A life the original owner of the car could never have envisaged, no doubt If you are not going to be using those Brooklands Green bumpers please let me know. And if you are going to paint it another colour I could sorely do with a Brooklands green passenger door. I am only in Melksham

Elite Veteran Posts: 664 Location: Herts | Did you swage the holes in the c posts? If so how did you do it without getting the other half of the tool in there?

Member Posts: 69 Location: Cirencester | I removed the original inner skins (all four of them!) and made a new section from 1.5 steel which I swaged before spot welding.
