Elite Veteran Posts: 703 Location: New Milton, Hampshire | Firstly I took off the door cards. They looked a bit damp and discoloured and as I was going away for 5 days I let them dry in the house and covered the rears in PVA glue when I returned. The left door is a replacement and had been coated internally with some form of sealant or rust proofing but I cleaned out the drivers and coated it with Waxoyl. Elite Veteran Posts: 703 Location: New Milton, Hampshire | Rust that needs sorting: Drivers door frame: Passenger door frame: Boot: The lip has been covered in tape but you can see where it's crumbling away a little. There is also a circle behind the tailgate at the top. I've been quoted £200ish the sort that lot out, not painted. The sunroof surround, especially the left side, is beyond repair. I peeled back some of the roof lining above the passengers door and loads of crumbs feel out. By putting my finger in the interior light hole it appears the crumbs I can feel above the windscreen are from the sunroof and not the roof but I really need to remove the lining to tell If the rest of the roof is solid, I'm thinking of cutting out a nice sunroof (maybe a mark 2) and getting it overlap welded onto my current roof. If anyone has a picture of the inside of the roof without the lining, I would appreciate seeing it.

Elite Veteran Posts: 703 Location: New Milton, Hampshire | Cheers The roof is pretty ugly to be honest, not sure if I should remove the lining or not. There's no way I'll get it back above the windscreen. I could remove it from the back and the sides but will sill be a pain to put back.

Expert Posts: 8490 Location: Midlands | I think you should reconsider welding the roof. As soon as you introduce any heat heat you will end up with a buckles and distortion. Best way has to be replacing the roof skin. But before you do that, i'd take the interior and carpets out and have a look at the floors. There seems to have been a lot of moisture trapped in panel joints, which generally means there is damp inside the panel cavities.

Elite Veteran Posts: 703 Location: New Milton, Hampshire | Hmm I would like to do the roof skin but until my brother can weld decently I assume the roof skin is going to cost loads to get done. Checked the passenger carpet and looks fine at the moment. Will get the drivers up soon.

Elite Veteran Posts: 703 Location: New Milton, Hampshire | I went to put on a new coolant cap but it's different to the old one, any issues: (old on left, new on right) What is this black box with yellow writing? Was just flapping around: Have an 'unofficial' scrappy neat me with a several Metros, mostly stripped out. It's the sort of place you hear about from years ago where you can climb all over the piles of cars, no health and safety. There was a metty with the blue interior, but the seats were mouldy and the dash below the glovebox was smashed a bit I picked up: Black window winder (one of mine is bent) Spare wheel bolt Door rubbers for both sides Interior light Blue parcel shelf (not from the above metty funnily enough) Mirror adjuster Need to go back for: Interior light holder Boot light Passenger central locking rod Sunroof deflector thing GTa clocks Edited by pqhf5kd 28/11/2012 6:49 PM

Border Crosser Posts: 3232 Location: Carmarthenshire, Wales | The car looks to be Flame Red to me. On the VIN plate it should have the code COF. As for the coolant cap, the new one looks like the proper oem standard one. Nice journal so far mate.

New clutch is lovely but still need to diagnose a noise. Apparently there is a garage near me, in Sopley, and the owner is into Metro's.

Elite Veteran Posts: 703 Location: New Milton, Hampshire | Had a look behind my glovebox and today to try and work out why my immobiliser and fob isn't working. Should the 3AS be connected to that blue connector? I couldn't see anything else that looked like the 3AS but all the photos I'm looking at have a white connector Took the metty to Julian, behind Winkton Auto centre, today. He has a lovely MK1 turbo, the bumper integrated oil cooler is the nicest looking job I've every seen. Showed him the sills and he said they're likely to be rusted below as well. £300-350 each side to replace them inside and out and then paint them up. The price I got for £200 didn't include paint and was just referring to the visible rust. Julian could also replace the roof skin if I was to take him a new roof, cut off at the pillars. He recommend a non-sunroof one for obvious reasons. Unfortunately I didn't ask for a guide price on that. He also confirmed the noise was the thrust shaft. I'm going to put a new gearbox in with my dad in the new year. Need to find out if Elephant will insure me on a PG1 as there's no point swapping the box twice.

Nope, that blue plug is meant to be like that for some reason. And the GTi doesnt have an immobiliser only a 3as alarm

Yeah it does have immobiliser, it cuts the starting circuit... but unfortunately still allows for bump starting... hense why the 5AS system was implemented on the R100 range.
