Gonna be giving the metro a serious bit of servicing in a couple of months, so it doesnt give me any trouble.

its a K reg 1.4 GTi 16v with MPI black metal injection manifold. 60k miles, cambelt alread done

I will be getting all my goodies from ebay where possible.

Dizzy cap / rotor arm / leads / oil filter -> same as all K16 series engines? Air filter the same as anythig else? Its the square box one.

Fuel filter, same as 214 or anything else? I know its not worth replcaing, but its another thing to tick off my list and feel happy about.

Gearbox fluid, whats recommended. Id like to say i treat the car nice, but i dont, so cant have the gbox dying on me. I know PG1's love a bit of MTF94, can i stick the same in here? haynes recomends 75w80?

Tyres not decided yet, but will look to get 4 new dunlop sport 9000's in 195/45/13 (at great expense!)

Anyone had trouble with any particular type of brake fluid. Not worth going to dot 5, Dot 4 should be fine...

Front brakes, will renew both discs and pad. Comon to any other car? Is the GTI fitted with vented discs at the front? i cant check cos the pikeys that nicked my car stole the adaptor for the nuts... Any recomendation of pattern parts to steer clear of? Doubt ill come across any unipart items Rear brakes dont do anything so not important to me...

Ive got a fairly comperhensive list of things to do to the car (as most of its unknown to me), any other things i should check / do whilst im in the mood for tinkering?

All advice appreciated, cant have the car letting me down!

Cheers,

Scott

if youre doing all of the above its well worth spending 1/2 an hour making sure the rear drums are free and adjusted properly. very unlikely theyll need replacing, or new shoes, but it IS worth cleaning all the crap out.

i know they dont do much braking wise on a metro, but they do make a difference to the pedal feel and initial bite the brakes have, as well as a nice strong handbrake.

I take it you haven't read the other thread about tyres then metrocedes, I asked if it was possible to fit 195s and Igor posted some pics of his dunlop 195x50x13s

Igor only has the 195s on the front as I read it.

Don't know if theyll clear the arms at the rear?

Is the GTI fitted with vented discs at the front?

If yours is a 1993 MPi with the 7 spoke alloys then YES

Yeah, its the 7 spoke jobbies, didnt like them at first, but they are growing on me...

Are the front discs the same as early MGF's? Are they the same diameter as the normal solid discs?

Im jsut being a cheapskate really, means i can find more items on ebay
