Hello,
My Radiator fan has stopped working, I've got a another one coming in a couple of days, but just wondered if there is a relay or something, that I'm not aware of, that may have gone instead of the fan? (I have already checked the fuse.)

you want to check the fan thermostat switch ,

stand in front of the car its on the left of the rad,

it activates the fan when it gets too hot,

make sure the fan actually works by taking the connections off, and bridging the contacts

with the ignition turned without engine running

should spark a little and fan comes to life

you should just need a new switch

Thanks alot mate.
I tested it and fan worked, so I nipped out and bought a sensor (which cost 25 quid!) then swapped em over. I then bleed the system like I do with my mini's, which is take expansion tank cap off, turn engine on and let it run, then rev it a bit till it burps and water level drops. Worked a treat!

only thing is when i removed old sensor it p***ed water out (obviuosly) so I put the new one in quick. The new one came with a seal (see pic 1) which didn't come out with old sensor. Therefore, I was wondering is the new seal for fitment when put in another rover or did the old seal just stay put when I took the sensor out?

most likely the seal would have stayed put, and you can just reuse this if there was no signs of leakage, if your quick enough there is no need to bleed the system out, just have the new sensor ready, pull the old one out, drop in the new one and as the coolant will be trying to escape no air will be drawn into the system so no bleeding will be required.

yea u should find that the seal is stil on the radiator

no big deal but may be worth replacing the seal!

and just re- bleeding the system again!

but make sure u have the seal there as i managed to drop my old switch inside the radiator. as the seal wasnt there, and i went to stop the coolant rusin out and resulted in losing the switch in the rad lmao

Jim same as me, But i dropped the seal inside the Rad & i had to fish it out with wire. I say always use new seals as once you disturb them they'll proberly leak.

Just fitted a brand new rad in mine. The new rad had a plastic plug in the hole for the temp switch. It was a right sod to get out! I fitted the old switch with the new seal and all is well.

Yeh i would use the new seal in the new rad as the seals do say DO NOT REUSE...i did have an instance with my first 'tro where it decided to piss out after not renewing it. I have been know to use silicon (Tiger Seal) to seal the sensor in with great sucess

Tiger seal is great! Have you found a way to keep it from cureing, cos I've found that I buy a tube, use it once and then the whole thing dries up!
