Bought this locost kit car a few months ago for a reasonable price, it's a 1600 crossflow, the kit cars based on the mk2 escort,

Plan is to strip the whole lot down and get the frame powder coated, new set of wheels, new body, new seats and fit my 1.4 turbo into it on a type 9 gearbox

did you pick the v6 box deliberately? if you find an off the shelf bell housing remember the v6 input shaft is longer so needs a longer bell housing.

Planning on making a bell housing that will fit a pg1 flywheel and possibly adapt the flywheel to accept a Sierra clutch

You've probably already get something in mind but thinking further about the difference in length of the v6 and I4 bell houseings you could use the standard i4 bellhousing which is about an inch shorter and make up a 1 inch adapter to bolt in between.

Original idea was weld a pg1 bell housing to the type 9, but now have plans to make a completely new one out of thick steel

Yup, but they use the 1.4 flywheels with 1.4 clutch...besides those bell housings, starter motor and clutch cost close too a grand new, I want to use my pg1 lightened flywheel and use a Sierra cosworth clutch or similar too cope with the power

You can use a lightened PG1 flywheel that will take a 228mm clutch instead of the 215 MGF/TF/ZR one.

Busy busy busy. .. cars now stripped down to the frame, cut most the back off for the new mk indy body and started making the bellhousing, bought some nice carbon fibre front cycle wings as well what should look great !!!

The Bellhousing will be 10mm thick metal on the bolting faces and 5mm thick in between, a bit ott and heavy

Dazz the clutch kept going on the metro, not due to the power, but due to misalignment of the cam cover engine mount (being made by eye)

The std 220 turbo clutch will be all you need 250lbft torque is not a lot, nor is the 7500rpm limit

The clutch i bought you, was also fitted to a 1.8 turbo k with 300lbft torque in an elise and has no problems.

So dont worry too much about a sierra clutch, as they are no better than the 220 turbos

And can i beat Sean first before you get this on the road and destroy the elise......please

Also as said on Facebook the original bonnet would be better for a turbo, you want to get air out of the engine bay not it

Wish I could use the rover 220 clutch but the Splines different to the Ford gearbox, also its about 2mm too big for the flywheel, the holes in the flywheel have been chipping away at the clutch so I'm going to get a rigid 226mm clutch with type 9 spline

You don't have too worry lol this won't be on the road till next year or till I win the lottery lol

The bonnet should be staying the same, unless if the engine don't fit but that'll only be a intake size bulge into it

Will need to open the sides up for the turbo though, quite a tight fit

Well, ordered the clutch, should take around 2 weeks

Made a front splitter up, fibreglass backed carbonfibre faced...looks good imo

Next thing I'll be moulding will be the rear spoiler and the interior

It's about half the weight of a normal clutch what is good for the whp I guess

I think you will be fine there.
Looks like a nice piece of work!
I would use a couple of dowels or dead size bolts (in a couple of holes) to make sure it cant move about.

Thanks, all the original dowls have been used, and all the bolts are well fitting to the holes so should be okay there

Main thing I'm worried about is heat distortion...I've taken about a week to weld it up, little bits every night after work

Offered the engine up to the car, everything should fit quite nicely...should be room for a nice equal length manifold too

Also The parts I've recently got for the kit car, alloy fuel tank, race technology dash with leads etc, 10mx1m woven fibreglass for the bonnet bulge ill need, poly bush kit for the front, stainless steel turbo flange, 600mmx3000mm sheet of alloy mesh for moulding the interior out of and then carbon fibre over the top of it and a perforated 3" tube for the carbon fibre exhaust ill be making
