Location: New Forest, Hampshire, United Kingdom | Phoebe recently ... before I sort out some replacement parts and modern upgrades for her. I guess I should really get Martin to start a page off for her in the Gallery. To date she's had replacement wheel trims, side repeaters, head unit/changer and speakers (need swapping to something better though ... got my boy onto that), GTi style seats and re-enforced/carpeted boot flooring (thanks to Si up north). We finally fixed the seal on the lamp, only for it to damp-up now, as well as get the suspension pumped up off the stops. Still trying to get around to sorting the bumpers! Since the pic she has also just had a replacement air filter (a K&N for the record) and should get some new tyres/wheels in the near future as the steelies are rusty and old. Eeewww! Metro Mad Posts: 7653 Location: Tamworth, Staffs | yes it is Rob, had a good look all over it, the only rust on it is the drivers foot well, and afew scabs on the rear archs and on edge of the cill, apart from those it is MINT, there is NO rust in the sunroof or at the back of the roof along the seam or in the boot, I'm amazed, it has had an easy life as I looked through the old receipts and it had only covered 25k in 2002, but once it was then sold on it has now gone to 57k on an M plate. I am restoring it and will be using it for a short time as it's too good to let it go to waste or sell it straight away, once I have had some use I will 'probably' be selling it no worries about the hoses as the 100 will be waiting engine wise for afew weeks while I sort this GTi and my mini out

185 section tyres really do make alot more rolling resistance than 155 section tyres. This means lower top speed, slower acceleration and worse petrol consumption. Hence the reason only the GTa, GTi and Si ever got them. Arguably the Si didn't have the power for them and they should have been saved for the 16v cars. This is why I recommend that 1.1 and 1.4 8v owners with alloys go for 165/65 or 175/60 tyres so they don't up the drag too much. No point gaining on the corners if you lose far more on the straights.

Veteran Posts: 354 Location: Balaguer-Lerida-Spain | Unfortunately no half leather seats...although he plans to get some better seats in the future once the engine bay things have been done and other more important things have been upgraded like Hydragas individual corner kit from Talon...Janspeed full kit from exhaust manifold to the end including sport cat. We aim to get up to 120-130 bhp after all the modifications are done...leaving us with very fast and fun karts... Alex

Big Lad Little Car Location: North West (Warrington) | Mad_shaun - 3/1/2008 8:57 PM The rear wiper is a Renualt Clio mark one jobbie - but the spring that holds it down scratches the hatch surround Not actually the case... its the plastic... I have the same one on mine... You gotta trim back with a sander for AGES to get clearance... works a treat now
Mad_shaun |
| ||
Veteran Posts: 342 Location: Radstock | A garage blew my 1.4 engine up - so I went to Motobuild to have a 1.8 and I thought that I would end up with MPI but they retained the spi system. Since then I have uprated the fuel pump, had the FSE altered and a Skoda (dont laugh) 1.6 injector installed to flow more fuel. I would like to move to MPI- but I am not brave enough to convert it myself...
Gandi69 |
| ||
Expert Posts: 11052 Location: Wolverhampton | I'd get the proper 1800 gear on it mate as I've heard of SPi gear knackering piston rings as its runs it very lean. All you will need is an MPi loom, plastic inlet with beige injectors, new airfilter, MPi fuel pump (if its not already one), ecu, mfu and 5as. Should set you back about 70 at the very most as thats what I got all my 1600 gear for when I had a 1600 engined Rover 100.

Veteran Posts: 342 Location: Radstock | I have been told that I may need to replace the flywheel - I have also downloaded the instructions on the main metropower website and its a bit more than I thought
Gandi69 |
| ||
Expert Posts: 11052 Location: Wolverhampton | Ah yes I forgot that you will need a 4 pole flywheel. Best thing to do is whip the engine out, fit most of the bits, put it back into the car along with wiring and all the MPi parts. I reckon if you've uprated the fuel pump already you'll be good to go. I reckon I'd do that for peace of mind. Don't wanna scare you but there have been some horror stories with people running SPi on larger engines and this was the reason for me wanting to swap mine over.
Mad_shaun |
| ||
Veteran Posts: 342 Location: Radstock | I like the way you say "whip" the engine out - i have not got a clue... but I do know the gear box has been upreated with a 216 and the injector is a larger 1.6 jobbie
Gandi69 |
| ||
Expert Posts: 11052 Location: Wolverhampton | It aint that a big a job on metro make 10000 times easier with a crane. But any way, depending on how long you have been running this setup you may be ok btu I know what i'd do! PS. you said the engine ran so hot that you needed those vents in the bonnet? Could be a symptom of running lean
Mad_shaun |
| ||
Veteran Posts: 342 Location: Radstock | The car had its 1800 engine installed in 2000 by motobuild - I have been trying to get it converted to MPI - I have even got the alloy inlet, loom and ECU at my mothers (I hope she has not thrown it ) but not got it done . I am willing to pay to get it done - but my local garage is not willing to take the job on...so I have been thinking about throttle bodies...
