I thought it'd be cool to have one thread where u post the most recent pic (one only so it doesn't get too cluttered ) of your 'tro lookin nice 'n clean - make sure u get a good quality photo - shall we say about 640x480 size (to get under the 100KB limit) - I'll start with mine...

btw: non-broadband users beware - this thread will prob take ages to load for you guys

Mate, if its a sony camera (try it ieven if it isn't), then just open the file and save it as a jpeg, even if it is one and keep the same name etc, it'll ask you to overwrite but it sometimes shrinks it. marc

Phoebe recently ... before I sort out some replacement parts and modern upgrades for her. I guess I should really get Martin to start a page off for her in the Gallery.

To date she's had replacement wheel trims, side repeaters, head unit/changer and speakers (need swapping to something better though ... got my boy onto that), GTi style seats and re-enforced/carpeted boot flooring (thanks to Si up north). We finally fixed the seal on the lamp, only for it to damp-up now, as well as get the suspension pumped up off the stops. Still trying to get around to sorting the bumpers!

Since the pic she has also just had a replacement air filter (a K&N for the record) and should get some new tyres/wheels in the near future as the steelies are rusty and old. Eeewww!

Here's mine. Check out the amazing matt paint on the arches. It's a colour called 'Primer Grey', i think it looks really neat....

But yeah, new rear lights and no rubbing strips anymore.

EDIT: Just noticed one piece of my splitter on the floor infront of my car! Shouldn't be long before that's on.

Just been playing around with the gti, cleaning the inside out as it was full of crap, took the tints off the windows, refitted the rear seats, cleaned up the only real bit of rust on the car in the drivers foot well ready for welding and then adjusted the pressure of the suspension so it sits how it should

not brill quality as I just took it with my phone but will keep everyone updated with the progress

yes it is Rob,

had a good look all over it, the only rust on it is the drivers foot well, and afew scabs on the rear archs and on edge of the cill, apart from those it is MINT, there is NO rust in the sunroof or at the back of the roof along the seam or in the boot, I'm amazed, it has had an easy life as I looked through the old receipts and it had only covered 25k in 2002, but once it was then sold on it has now gone to 57k on an M plate.

I am restoring it and will be using it for a short time as it's too good to let it go to waste or sell it straight away, once I have had some use I will 'probably' be selling it

no worries about the hoses as the 100 will be waiting engine wise for afew weeks while I sort this GTi and my mini out

Nope, they're GTa/GSi 6 spokes, found only on R100s and usually wearing 155 tyres.

so paulie are only gti mpi and spi alloys orginally fitted with 185/55 tyres from the factory or do the gta five spoke alloys have them to if there fitted to a 1.4 8v/16v model (and yes i do know that you can and have to changes tyres on wheels or alloys when they get worn down to less than 1.6 mm im not that stupid) heres an old pic of my little rio in standard form

Only the SPi x-spoke alloys and the MPi 7 spoke have them from the factory. Incidently, the MK3 GTa 1.4 (the non-SE one) and the Si were factory fitted with wide steelies with 185 tyres. 5 and 6 spoke alloys usually come with 155 tyres, but 185 can be fitted.

Even got my brochure out to check this: yes, both 1.1 and 1.4 GTA SEs came with 155 tyres on the 5 spoke alloys.

185 section tyres really do make alot more rolling resistance than 155 section tyres. This means lower top speed, slower acceleration and worse petrol consumption. Hence the reason only the GTa, GTi and Si ever got them. Arguably the Si didn't have the power for them and they should have been saved for the 16v cars.

This is why I recommend that 1.1 and 1.4 8v owners with alloys go for 165/65 or 175/60 tyres so they don't up the drag too much. No point gaining on the corners if you lose far more on the straights.

I span out the other day on a roundabout in the wet, i had never drove my car with 155/65/13's before being used to my normal 195/45/14's, the funny thing was as i went onto the roundabout i said to my mate, "i wonder how well these drift"... then i found out. after that i found a nice wet carpark...
I actually quite like 155/65/13's

the splitter was off a crashed laguna, hence why it is slightly damaged on the drivers side.gonna find a newer one to use in the near future.

My Pride And Joy

She's beautiful mate.

I suppose this will suffice for now. After the head gasket is done I'm going to make an effort to clean her up and then take some more pictures, these ones are getting a little tired now and don't really do the car justice IMO.

Unfortunately she is no longer with us...an incident at a roundabout...

RIP

I was so gutted when the insurance wrote her off...bit happier when they paid out with £1500 though...

It has grey bumpers rather than black originally. You ain't going to make them black without effort.

It looks fine as long as they are all one shade and newish looking.

The 'shovel' (u muppet ) is off atm for shortening and refurb... The previous owner didn't know speed bumps exist, I dont think

The spoiler is stayin tho, quite like it, think it was a saxo job thats been grafted on (rather poorly) needs filler and respray.
Just wanna get the engine/cooling/running gear etc sorted before I start on (non structural) bodywork/ styling.

But yeah, thanx

Unfortunately no half leather seats...although he plans to get some better seats in the future once the engine bay things have been done and other more important things have been upgraded like Hydragas individual corner kit from Talon...Janspeed full kit from exhaust manifold to the end including sport cat.

We aim to get up to 120-130 bhp after all the modifications are done...leaving us with very fast and fun karts...

Nice 114GTi, looks very tidy, has opening rear windows too which is very rare on UK cars. Any interior and engine pics?

Not actually the case... its the plastic...
I have the same one on mine... You gotta trim back with a sander for AGES to get clearance... works a treat now

A garage blew my 1.4 engine up - so I went to Motobuild to have a 1.8 and I thought that I would end up with MPI but they retained the spi system.
Since then I have uprated the fuel pump, had the FSE altered and a Skoda (dont laugh) 1.6 injector installed to flow more fuel.
I would like to move to MPI- but I am not brave enough to convert it myself...

I'd get the proper 1800 gear on it mate as I've heard of SPi gear knackering piston rings as its runs it very lean. All you will need is an MPi loom, plastic inlet with beige injectors, new airfilter, MPi fuel pump (if its not already one), ecu, mfu and 5as. Should set you back about 70 at the very most as thats what I got all my 1600 gear for when I had a 1600 engined Rover 100.

Ah yes I forgot that you will need a 4 pole flywheel. Best thing to do is whip the engine out, fit most of the bits, put it back into the car along with wiring and all the MPi parts. I reckon if you've uprated the fuel pump already you'll be good to go. I reckon I'd do that for peace of mind. Don't wanna scare you but there have been some horror stories with people running SPi on larger engines and this was the reason for me wanting to swap mine over.

I like the way you say "whip" the engine out - i have not got a clue... but I do know the gear box has been upreated with a 216 and the injector is a larger 1.6 jobbie

It aint that a big a job on metro make 10000 times easier with a crane. But any way, depending on how long you have been running this setup you may be ok btu I know what i'd do! PS. you said the engine ran so hot that you needed those vents in the bonnet? Could be a symptom of running lean

The car had its 1800 engine installed in 2000 by motobuild - I have been trying to get it converted to MPI - I have even got the alloy inlet, loom and ECU at my mothers (I hope she has not thrown it ) but not got it done . I am willing to pay to get it done - but my local garage is not willing to take the job on...so I have been thinking about throttle bodies...

I've just realised theres no passenger side tint on it.. unless its soooo view through it looks like its not there.

Drivers front one does not look legal.

Youve just confirmed what i thought... the A series looks great with the K series wide steels! are you using a K series front subframe?

Cheers for that, got a project in mind that would use the steels Standard metro lower arms, ball joints etc? The front wheel looks to sit perfect within the front wheel arch... have you modded the wings atall or are they bog standard too?

il have to take some more in the next couple of days i regret not taking any though out!
everything bodywork wise is standard, the frame obviously modified to take the engine and the inner-wings cut back slightly and modified too
il get more pictures soon the engine bay picture was a while ago!
